Beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend Matthew Dillon Gabourie was called home Sunday, October 3, 2021 after a year long battle with cancer. Matthew resided in San Antonio, Texas and is survived by his wife Melissa and his 20 month old daughter Emily.
Matthew was born July 10, 1990 in Sacramento, California. Upon graduation from high school, Matthew left California and headed to Pennsylvania. He earned an Associates Degree from Bucks County Community College while working full-time at the local Party Fair store. His co-workers there became like family to him, but eventually he longed for a new adventure at a university with a good football team.
Matthew took the plunge, left everything he knew, and moved to Texas in 2011. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 2013 with a political science degree. His one true love besides his family was Texas A&M football. Every game day Saturday started with an A&M polo and text messaging all of his Aggie alumni buddies hyping up kickoff.
After graduating from Texas A&M, Matthew began working for Altus Group out of Houston, Texas as a software consultant. His love and dedication to his career was admired by everyone he came in contact with. Many coworkers and even a handful of clients became family over the years. Their love and support for Matthew and his family provided immeasurable comfort and strength throughout his last year.
Matthew and Melissa met in Houston in 2013. They bonded over their desire to get outside and explore, whether it was to go hiking or camping all across Texas. They loved to travel and would plan trips to Las Vegas at least once a year. They got married in San Antonio in 2018 with all of their friends and family in attendance. The joyous memories of that evening are remembered by all.
One of Matthew’s interests stemming from childhood was his love of technology. He cultivated many long lasting relationships with people across the country via the internet. Matthew enjoyed playing video games on his computer that he built, and he also loved using various social media platforms. As a result, some of these online relationships became truly personal friendships, to the point where two of his longtime friends he made online were groomsmen in Matthew and Melissa’s wedding.
Matthew found a new joy in life in January of 2020 when his daughter Emily was born. His drive for being a parent stemmed from losing his own father in early childhood, as evidenced by the time and energy he put into Emily every single day. He was so proud of every new milestone she reached and would show her off to any one who would listen. He particularly loved reading books to Emily and finding new music that made her dance. Emily played a pivotal role in Matthew’s fight against cancer, as his desire to watch her grow encouraged him to seek every treatment option possible.
